In-person Reopening

As we work back toward having 100% of our students back in school five days a week, we’re committed to getting it right. We’re all in this together – because even when we face uncertainty or unfamiliarity, DREAM is family – always.

our guiding principles

We’re approaching this year with three core principles. These principles will guide all decisions we make.

  • The health and safety of everyone in our learning community – youth, staff, and families – is priority.

  • DREAM students will get an excellent education – they will learn as much as they would in a typical school year.

  • DREAM will continue to invest in our Grow the Whole Child model and attend to students’ social, emotional, and physical development.

As circumstances continue to evolve, our policies and practices will change if it means keeping you and our community safe. Read on for more details about how we’ll return to school while keeping each other safe and healthy.

Travel policy reminder

We want to stress that avoiding nonessential travel over upcoming school calendar breaks (February 15-19 and March 29-April 2) will be crucial to ensuring the safe reopening of our doors on February 22 and April 5, respectively. DREAM’s travel policy aligns with the NY travel advisory, where there are two options upon return to a location on the NY advisory list:

  • Quarantining for 10 days OR

  • “Testing out” of the quarantine period, where travelers must obtain a test within three days of departure from that state/territory/country, prior to arrival in New York. The traveler must, upon arrival in New York, quarantine for three days. On day 4 of their quarantine, the traveler must obtain another COVID test. If both tests come back negative, and the person is symptom-free, they may return to work/school with proof of both negative COVID tests and being symptom-free.

Because of timing, it’s almost impossible to travel to a noncontiguous state, US territory, or level 2 or 3 country on the CDC’s list for more than 24 hours and be able to safely return onsite to DREAM on February 22 following our Mid-Winter Break and on April 5 following our Spring Break.

In addition, please note that at this time, being partially or fully vaccinated does not impact the travel guidelines provided by New York State.
